THE BACK STORY

Destiny S. Olsen (a born and raised Utahn) started the Doulas of Salt Lake City a year and half ago with the intention of creating a welcoming and inspiring space with other fellow doula colleagues. She has always had a bigger vision for creating an inclusive and diverse organization far outside of what was being offered here in Utah. AND THEN… 2020 happened. COVID-19, the protests in response to the murder of George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement at large, and the continued insecurity of reproductive health access for all bodies highlighted the intersectional harm and oppresive systems that negatively affect us all. Utah deserves more! In May, Destiny began talking more with Ashley Brichter, founder of Birth Smarter (a newish Utah resident) and realized their mutual goals. We are working to create an organization where members will uphold ourselves and others within this community accountable for cultivating equitable spaces. We are in the process of formalizing our Board, writing by-laws, and securing Non-Profit status. We believe in the reduction of hoarding power and leading through transparency. This is a shared community – we hope to build around an organizingl mind. This journey has no end point, we will never arrive, rather continue to move forward. This is a MOVEment.
